What Are Cosmetics?
The following are defined as cosmetics: soap, scrubs, make-up, body sprays. (Pretty anything that goes onto your body!) Room Sprays and shower steamers are not considered cosmetics.
Each cosmetic is carefully handmade to abide by Health Canada standards (via ingredient use checks). While colourants are sourced from multiple suppliers we ensure that they are all cosmetic-grade (FDA-approved) and permitted for use in Canada and the USA.
Since facial skin is much more sensitive, we recommend only using our soaps for hands and body. (But if you still want to use it on your face, that's fine!). If you would like to use our scrubs, we recommend using sugar scrubs for the face and salt scrubs for your body.
At the moment, we are only shipping soaps to Canada and the United States.
Shipping
I am only familiar with the Cosmetic laws for these 2 countries. In Canada, soaps/cosmetics must be submitted to Health Canada, called a Notification of Cosmetics. This is an optional process to the USA. Cosmetics Laws are different for each country, and some countries prohibit the importing of soaps.
Ingredients & Usage
Yes! Each ingredient is checked with the Health Canada cosmetic ingredient database to ensure they are safe to use. Our colourants are all safe for use according to EU Cosmetic and FDA standards.
All of the soap bases I use are vegetable-based! Some of the soap bases are also Kosher.
Those are colourants! Legally, producers of cosmetics in Canada are required to list each ingredient used in their products, and my micas are listed by their Colour Index (CI) numbers (CI ######).
Soaps: For soaps with hand-painted elements (brush strokes, filled job symbols), I recommend not using those on your face for the first couple times in case any mica powders are loosened by the water! Otherwise the soaps are safe for use on the face; I just don't recommend it since there are better soaps you could be using for your facial skin!
Scrubs: Yes! Please use the sugar scrubs on your face as sugar is not as abrasive. I recommend using the salt scrubs for your body instead, as the salts tend to be more coarse.
Sugar and Salt scrubs are used as exfoliants for your skin! These types of products typically try to help with lifting dead skin cells and have nourishing properties!
Keep water out of your scrubs! Scrubs come with a dry preservative, however I have opted to make a few with Optiphen, which is a preservative that should ideally keep scrubs from going rancid or molding. Please use the spatulas provided with your scrub if possible.
Cosmetics Help
We handcut all of our soaps. These soaps are handcrafted, meaning that each one turns out different
Sometimes the colourants are actually a blend of 2 colours. (ex. Cyan=Blue/Green). One colour may come out a little more over time.
